Young women and young men have a critical role in promoting and maintaining international peace and security. Contrary to most popular representations, the majority of youth are not violent. Rather, they can - and do - play active roles as agents of positive and constructive change.
This is exactly what UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security recognizes for the first time.

Progress Study on Youth, Peace and Security
The United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security adopted in December 2015 requested the Secretary-General “to carry out a Progress Study on the youth’s positive contribution to peace processes and conflict resolution, in order to recommend effective responses at local, national, regional and international levels”, and to present the results of the Study to Member States of the United Nations.
In August 2016, the Secretary-General appointed an independent Lead Author, Graeme Simpson, and an Advisory Group of 21 experts – half of them youth – to develop the Study.
