What are the challenges and sustainable solutions to inclusive peacebuilding in Yemen?

This brownbag will center on the opportunities and challenges related to the situation on the ground in Yemen, including spaces where peacebuilding work can continue in the midst of conflict, and how civil society, in particular youth organisations, can help in promoting sustainable long-term solutions.

 

Shoqi Maktary is a peacebuilding professional with ten years of international experience with expertise in conflict sensitivity mainstreaming, development planning, crisis prevention and risk management who is leading Search for Common Ground’s work on local level conflict resolution and social cohesion. Mr. Maktary is a former Fulbright Scholar with Masters Degrees in conflict transformation and peacebuilding, and security management. Prior to joining SFCG, he was Risk Management Advisor for Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) where he advised GTZ Country Director and Project Heads on conflict, risk and security issues through in-depth context analysis and trend developments, and provided guidance on conflict sensitive planning and safe and effective implementation of activities.

Search for Common Ground is an NGO operating in 34 countries whose mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict away from adversarial approaches toward cooperative solutions. Search for Common Ground partners with UNDP in different countries to promote social cohesion, community reconciliation and civil society and youth engagement in peacebuilding. Search for for Common Ground and UNDP closely collaborate, together with other UN entities and civil society organisations, to support the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2250 on youth, peace and security.
